There are some towns somewhere in the world that are extremely colourful, some others that are situated in the most remote regions of our planet, and some that are “simply” built on top of cliffs!
Since we already wrote about colourful cities and remote village, we figured it was time to concentrate on all those towns located on the tops of towering cliffs or carved into the sides of mountains.
After a long research, The Golden Scope shortlisted five very peculiar and beautiful villages: Castellfollit de la Roca in Spain, Rocamadour in France, Bonifacio in Corsica, Ronda—again—in Spain, and last, but not least, Al Hajjarah in Yemen.
If you are ever in any of those countries, you should go visit the villages mentioned above and let us know what you think of them. And remember, the beauty of those places lies in their location and unique architecture.
THE WONDERFUL CLIFF TOWNS
Castellfollit de la Roca, Spain
Considered as one of the most picturesque villages in Catalonia, Castellfollit de la Roca is located on top of a cliff, from where it is possible to enjoy a breath-taking panorama.
Ronda is a city in the Spanish province of Málaga, and it is situated in a mountainous area at about 750 m above sea level. The Guadalevín River, which runs right across the town, has helped carving out the steep.
Al Hajjarah, Yemen
Al Hajjarah is small beautiful village situated in the Haraz Mountains. It is built upon a precipice, and it is famous for its towering houses, which all face the cliff. Al Hajjarah can be dated back to the 12th century.
