Luxembourg, officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is one of the world’s smallest countries. Located in central Europe, Luxembourg borders with Belgium, Germany and France.
The official languages are French and German and the capital city is Luxembourg City.
Some of you might have heard of Luxembourg, as it is known as the country with the world’s second highest GDP (PPP) per capita after Qatar.
However, this state is not just about financial development and common wealth; Luxembourg has a very rich cultural heritage too.
People would rarely think of this nation as a holiday destination, and this is why The Golden Scope decided to dedicate one whole article on the places to go visit when there.
There are so many interesting and beautiful locations, that after having a look at the following photos, you will surely want to fly there and see them all for yourself!
WHAT? WHERE? HOW?
Luxembourg used to be the land of the Celts. During the Ancient Roman Empire, in 53 BC, Julius Cesar fought the so-called “barbarians” (Gallic Tribes) and incorporated the lands that today compose the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg under his Empire.
Only during the Middle Ages Luxembourg became an independent nation. After the Fortress of Luxembourg was built, a town gradually developed around it, until it became the centre of the state.
Thanks to the strategic location of the state of Luxembourg—which is right in between France, Germany and Belgium—the Luxembourgish dynasty gained more and more power, to the point that it provided several Holy Roman Emperors, Kings of Bohemia, and Archbishops.
HOW TO GET THERE
If you’re based in Europe, you can easily drive to Luxembourg, especially if you’re staying in France, Germany or Belgium.
If you prefer to fly there and not to worry about where to park your car, then you just have to book a flight to Luxembourg (LU). Several low cost airlines fly over there, so you could also find cheap deals.
