The Isle of Pines

In the Pacific Ocean there are many islands … you can dream even just looking at their photos….

The Golden Scope today is in trouble because must choose one of them to show you and …. each of them is incredibly beautiful!

We have chosen to tell about the “Isle of Pines”, as you might guess from its name, the characteristic vegetation makes it different from the other in archipelago of New Caledonia.

It was discovered by James Cook in 1774, during his second trip to New Zealand, it is 18 km long and 14 wide, its population is about 2,000 inhabitants and its colors …leave you speechless!

The dark green of its lush vegetation, the blue of the sea bathing the enchanting white sand beaches of Kuto and Kanumera and Upi Bay… The emerald green of the natural pools… Everything is a Mother Nature masterpieces in that area of our planet!

This island is flat and has small hills only in the southern part. The highest altitude is represented by Pic N’ga, about 260 meters, from which you can admire a breathtaking landscape.

The barrier reef almost surrounds this strip of land and allows diving, without oxygen cylinders, where it’s possible to meet tropical fish of every colors, or the nice sea turtles.

The village of Vao, the capital, is actually the only real town with a  town hall, a post office and a small hospital… certainly some useful and valuable facilities and services for people who live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean…. In a fantastic paradise!
