For me that I am writing this article and I live in Italy, the word “province” means an administrative and territorial unit, usually of some hundreds of thousands of inhabitants, but for the most populous state of the world, the same word means the same type of entity with a few tens of millions to one hundred million inhabitants!  For example, the Henan Province has a population of over 92 million people!

All Chinese provinces have to show to visitors beautiful and interesting historical and natural sites, so the choice is not easy… today we’ll start with the province of Guizhou. it’s located in the south-western China.

Its population is “only” 35 million inhabitants… Guizhou represents the combination of which we have just said… historic and cultural sites and impressive natural beauty.

The Huanggshou waterfalls, literally “the falls of the tree with yellow fruit”, have an area of 450 km2, they are the largest in Asia. An absolutely spectacular place where you can also follow a path located behind the curtain of water falls… it arrives to a mysterious cave….

Along the Chishui River there is the oldest Bing’an town, the entry point to the province of Guizhou for all those who came from the neighboring province of Sichuan. For centuries it has been considered an important river trading post. Walking in its narrow streets surrounded by old buildings is a magical step back in time…

All the territory around the town of Chishui is considered a true natural oasis. A project of the central government should make Chishui as the ecological capital of the China in the future. The government has accepted because no longer wants to be considered the most polluting country in the world!

Chishui  is also known as “the city of a thousand waterfalls”.  Chinese call all this territory “paradise of the water”, because there are a lot of rivers and waterfalls inserted into red sandstone … a  wonderful scenery included since 2010 by UNESCO in the World Heritage Sites List!
