On holiday at the Coppo Park in Gubbio

On holiday at the Coppo Park in Gubbio

After a year of intense work we were looking for a quiet place where to spend a regenerating  holiday in total relax, away from the crazy crowd… during a short but lucky search on the web we “stumbled” on the site of a farm-holidays located in the Coppo Park of Gubbio (Umbria), a splendid natural oasis… it was totally unknown to us but now it has remained in our hearts…

All this Italian region Umbria is a fascinating mix of nature and history, from the mystical Assisi gently set on the hill that seems to “support” its “clinging” inhabited center to the incomparable Gubbio, located at an altitude of about 500 meters with its historical center, one of the most beautiful medieval pearls of Italy.

So, after driving through the imposing Gorge of Bottaccione, right behind the Monte Ingino, which dominates Gubbio with the Sanctuary of the Patron S. Ubaldo from which you can enjoy a spectacular view, we came into the Coppo Park to reach our final destination: “Il Principe Contadino” farm-holidays, personally managed by the owner Cesare Bedini, a kind and welcoming person! A spontaneous kindness due to his true nature…

The first impact is absolutely exciting for the beauty of the place, an ancient farmhouse perfectly restored, large rooms and ceilings with wooden beams of the past… and then… looking around… only a luxuriant nature made mainly of woods! It was exactly what we were looking for!

There are many, too many aspects to be told you to describe about this corner of paradise; so we choose in our opinion two significant of them that, also with the images, give you a little idea of a holiday in this location…

Both aspects revolve around the window of our room: the first concerns the alfalfa meadow,  surrounded by trees, on which we looked out. During the day the song of the cicadas and during the night that of the crickets were the voice of nature that cuddled us… but the real magic appeared on the morning of the second day: hundreds of white butterflies fluttered on the alfalfa meadow and at the limit of the cultivation, just out of the wood that surrounded it, we saw 3 tender roes that seemed to come from a Walt Disney movie … Mother Nature never ceases to surprise us!

The second aspect concerns Ansciano Mount which dominates the landscape that I have just described. Its ridge is a bit rocky and we noticed two white dots and one brown (given the distance and the lack of a pair of binoculars); from dawn to sunset they moved above it. We was intrigued so we asked Cesare Bedini and we discovered that they were three horses that the owner left completely free in that area. We made a group excursion to the top of the mountain! when we approached the three horses that, against the background of the blue sky, were playing with each other and then gradually approached with curiosity, our thought was: this is one of those unforgettable moments of life… and in fact we walked for several minutes in the company of our three new friends. We realized also some photos of the “group”, a mixed group of humans and equines…

It was a really unforgettable holiday during which we also lived very well with the other friendly guests of “Il Principe Contadino”, 4 families coming from Rome, Varese and Pordenone, with whom we are in touch and we hope to see again soon. Our heart has remained on the top of Ansciano Mount where, we are sure, at this moment our three equine friends, the brown horse and the other two white, will be enjoying the view by grazing the grass and playing chasing with the manes in the wind…

Thanks Cesare for your unique hospitality and see you soon!
