This forest is located in front of the South China Sea and dates back to 150 million years ago, togheter the Amazon rainforest is one of the basic green lungs of the world.

This rain forest is crossed by several swollen and muddy rivers; it’s one of the largest biodiversity of the Earth!Scientists have estimated that each 10 square kilometers “contains” approximately 1,500 species of flowering plants, 750 species of trees, 125 species of mammals, 400 species of birds and 150 species of butterflies… Something really amazing!

Moreover, the mountain range, which reaches 2000 meters at the border between the Indonesian and Malaysian Borneo, is surrounded by a part of the forest dense and impenetrable!

In Malaysian Borneo, in a place named Sarawak, the Penan tribe lives, from the forest they derive all they need to live. They are also known as the “People of the Forest” a peaceful people, in that region they live together with twenty other smaller tribes between which the infamous head-cutters…

Their houses are stilts and their food is the result of hunting: wild pigs, deer, leopards, and also blacks bears… they hunts with poisoned arrows hurled from their blowpipes.

The approximately 4,000 members of the Penan tribe are threatened by the Malaysian government; it would make them sedentary and remove them from the oldest forest in the world which in a lot of ways meets their physical needs and their spiritual preparation…

Some politicians of Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, stated the intention to take them out of the jungle, to emancipate them and offer the possibility of a “decent” way of life… but Mutang Urud, a Penan defender of his land said: “The forest gives us protection, food and substances for our medicine. We appreciate progress but we will not lose our traditions, the history of my people grows in the forest.”
