The Perhentian Islands

When I was a child, I knew Malaysia only thanks to the adventures of Sandokan, it was for me a fascinating and unreachable place… many years have passed, but Malaysia is still one of those countries with all to discover natural beauties… such as our today’s destination: The Perhentian Islands.

This Southeast Asian nation alternates chaotic large metropolises such as the capital Kuala Lumpur with natural sites of shocking beauty… and also little known internationally.

The Malay Peninsula is located in the South China Sea and the Perhentian Islands are precisely in these waters. They are administratively part of the Malaysian state of Terengganu.

The 2 main islands are the largest Perhentian Besar, and the smaller Perhentian Kecil, near the latter there are the beautiful uninhabited islets of Susu, Dara, Seringgi and Rawa; they are part of the Pulau Radang National Marine Park, an area created to protect the wild and almost untouched nature.

This natural paradise is located about 20 kilometers from the coast of Malaysia and it is reachable only by boat from the coastal villages of Kuala Besut and Tok Bali. From the capital Kuala Lumpur is possible to reach these small and characteristic villages by the fast air connection with Kora Bharu,  near the two villages.  On-the-road you can travel by bus that it also provides the same link.

From Kora Bhatu you can reach by another bus service the places to embark for the Perhentian Islands. The effort of the trip is certainly rewarded by the wild beauty of these islands!

Obviously the marine national park offers to snorkeling lovers some beautiful coral-rich seabeds  populated by colorful tropical fish. In addition, the islands haven’t roads and have few resorts immersed in nature, these aspects contribute to give you an unforgettable holiday in the Perhentian Islands!
