Discovering Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve

The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is one of the world’s most wonderful natural places. Situated in Chile, not too far from the Argentinian border, the reserve spans 34.500.000 hectares of native forest.

Huilo Huilo is home to 81 bird species, as well as numerous feline species such as Puma Concolor, Gato Montés Oncifelis Geoffroyi and Guiña or Kod-Kod, one of the world’s smallest wildcat. A part from the rich fauna habiting the forest, Huilo Huilo features an incredible flora. Some of the world’s rarest plants grow among the tall trees and green plateaux composing the reserve.

The territories that now compose the Huilo Huilo reserve were discovered by the Chileans towards the end of XIXth century, after the city of Valdivia was founded.

As Valdivia started to expand becoming more and more like a “metropolis”, the forest became a fundamental economic resource, in order to cover the city’s necessities.

Huilo Huilo reserve was actually created in 1999, so not so long ago, to protect the wildlife. Since then, the reserve has been a popular destination for tourists who love nature and want to experience and get to know the Chilean flora and fauna.

MONTAÑA MÁGICA LODGE

The Huilo Huilo reserve is not just known for being home to a spectacular wildlife, but this reserve hides a strange and fascinating hotel, built right in the heart of the forest: Montaña Mágica Lodge.

Designed to symbolise energy and life, Montaña Mágica Lodge follows the shape of a mountain, from which comes the life and in which the magic of the forest is contained.

This hotel was built to represent the beauty and wonder of the Patagonian forest, and this why its peculiar external façade fully blends in the surrounding greenery. Both the shape and the colour complement the landscape and don’t damage the natural panorama.

Montaña Mágica Lodge presents standard rooms, which are approximately 10mt2, and suites, which are 15 mt2. Each room can only host two guests.
