The Quirimbas Archipelago

The Quirimbas Archipelago

Mozambique, an African country able to amaze us with its incredible natural beauties… but today we will not visit this nation through exciting safari in contact with different species of wild animals… we “will dive” into the Indian Ocean which bathes its shores, to reach one of those destinations that we prefer: the Quirimbas Archipelago.

Mozambique is a former Portuguese colony located in the south-eastern Africa just across the beautiful island of Madagascar. It is a developing nation where, unfortunately, half of the population still lives in absolute poverty; so the tourism is a very important opportunity.

The Quirimbas Islands, also known as Lucky Islands, are thirty small strips of land, which seem to emerge with difficulty from the waters of the ocean… a veritable paradise and a natural treasure  not yet been “fully appreciated” from the tourism and so, they are “irresistibly” fascinating…

So it is clear that this is not the right place for who love the comfort of the equipped villages managed by specialized staff… The Quirimbas are instead the ideal destination for who love adventure and contact with a wild nature and with the local population… poor but dignified and aware of living in an oasis of peace and tranquility…

The archipelago seen from above looks like a sort of spectacular chain of emerging land strips that stretches for about 200 kilometers with 12 main inhabited islands; the others are uninhabited or privately owned and therefore suitable to an unforgettable luxury vacation.

The beauty of these islands is absolutely “overwhelming” from imposing mangrove forests to spectacular white sandy beaches bathed by an inviting and limpid turquoise sea that varies the gradation of color, up to an intense blue, depending on the distance from the shore.

The Government of Mozambique to preserve the splendid nature, has created in the southern area of the Quirimbas Archipelago, the Quirimbas National Park, which will allow future generations to admire this corner of paradise.

Finally, this wonderful archipelago is also the ideal destination for lovers of diving, here it’s possible to swim among a multitude of colorful fish and the picturesque coral reef.

If you are lovers of history you can visit, on the Ilha de Ibo, the ancient fortifications from where slaves, gold and ivory were sent to the Arab world.
