The remote island of Tristan da Cunha

Spending a holiday in a renowned places on our planet is a common thing, but it’s certainly less common to do it in a remote and unknown location where, you can not meet organized tourist groups!

Some isolated in the ocean islands, atolls, and isles are often beautiful and remote places to discover with an adventurous holiday…

The adventurous experience already begins with having to reach them… especially if the island is far away from the coast and positioned in the middle of an ocean… as our present destination: Tristan da Cunha Island.

Tristan da Cunha is the main island of the small archipelago with the same name. It’s located right in the center of the southern Atlantic Ocean in an almost equidistant position east of the African continent and west of the South American continent.

You must know that the island is 2,810 kilometers from Cape Town, which is the closest “mainland”… so it’s clear that reaching this remote location is already an adventure because it takes about 6 days of navigation.

This island has a volcanic origin and it’s the only inhabited area in the archipelago. Geographically it’s part of Africa and it’s institutionally an overseas territory of the United Kingdom, for which the official language is English, spoken by just under 300 inhabitants.

The photos and the video are better than words to describe this landline…obviously it has no airport or harbor and it’s reached by a ship every 5/6 weeks. All aspects for which it is considered one of the most remote human settlements in the world.

In 1961, after a series of eruptions and earthquakes between August and September, the entire population of the time, 264 isolates and 26 non-residents, was evacuated in October and through Cape Town, conducted in Great Britain. The following winter, an expedition of the Royal Society gave a favorable opinion to Tristan da Cunha’s rebuilding and repopulation. Today its brave inhabitants are proud to live on one of the more remote inhabited islands of our planet!
